Campaigners opposing fracking in Ryedale district received a set-back when a bid to block it was rejected by the High Court
Campaigners opposing fracking in North Yorkshire's Ryedale district received a set-back when a bid to block extraction by this method was rejected by the High Court. In April and May 2016 environmental and planning permission was granted for the extraction of shale gas by ‘high volume hydraulic fracturing’ at Kirby Misperton, in Ryedale. The site lies only 4 miles from the boundary with the National Park and is visible from it. NYMA supports the National Park Authority in concern about ‘creeping industrialisation’ of the rural landscape and the potential damage to biodiversity and the tourism industry from this development.
